Who is Des Tatchell the founder?
I grew up in difficult circumstances in the Mt Druitt housing commission of Western Sydney, I had a father that had been in prison and grew up in a dysfunctional household. I left home at 16 years old being homeless and lived in a Salvation Army refuge for about 18 months. At the time I was in full time employment, saving money and changing my circumstances.
I worked a number of different jobs including labourer, office mover, jewellery polisher and ultimately ended going back to TAFE in Goulburn, full-time. After achieving my year 12 certificate I joined the NSW Police Force. I met my former wife at TAFE and ultimately had three children with her. I did 10 years as a policeman in Sydney. Afterwards I worked in a number of government departments, EPA, Housing Department and Workplace Inspector. I ultimately ended up in the construction/ oil and gas industries as a senior safety advisor. I pursued my passion for workplace safety and working people in general.
Despite significant adversity and setbacks in life I have a passion and curiosity for life.
